The humble sandwich is enjoying a well-deserved comeback. Arguably the ultimate meal-on-the-go, it was famously invented for John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, so he could eat with one hand while gambling or working (depending which story you believe). There’s no debate, however, about its elegant simplicity: no cutlery needed. Plus, when you realise there are no rules for what goes inside, the sandwich transforms into a world of endless possibilities. With International Sandwich Day on November 3, why not treat yourself to a delicious sando or two? From Sandoitchi to Pattison’s Patisserie and Cali Press, here’s where to hit at Chatswood Chase this November 3.

Sandoitchi

Sandoitchi (which means sandwich in Japanese) has been a lunchtime mainstay in Darlinghurst since 2018, and now has a second spot in Chatswood Chase. Their menu blends classic Japanese flavours with a little Aussie flair. Take the Pork Katsu sando: soft white bread filled with pork katsu, cheese, kombu butter, tonkatsu mayo, nori, pickled carrot, cabbage, and cucumber. Make sure you leave room for a Strawberry sando, made with fresh strawberries and yuzu whipped cream on fluffy white bread. Plus, keep an eye out for seasonal specials on the Sandoitchi Instagram (@sandoitchicafe).

Pattison’s Patisserie

If you love the classics, Pattison’s Patisserie is for you. Indulge in a Croque Monsieur, the French answer to a ham-and-cheese toastie, made with creamy béchamel and grilled until bubbling and golden. Or, try their turkey and brie sandwich with rocket and cranberry sauce on soy and linseed sourdough. It’s the perfect nostalgic, satisfying lunch.

Cali Press

Cali Press takes inspiration from California’s health food-focused cafe culture, offering fresh, healthy options. Their vegan grilled tamari tofu sandwich is a standout, packed with avocado, roma tomatoes, spinach, hummus, smoky mayo, and dukkah – all served on 36-hour fermented sourdough. This is a sandwich requiring two hands.

Breadtop

You might think of Breadtop as a place for loaves, rolls and cakes, but check out their snack menu for a sweet surprise: the Rainbow Sandwich. It’s a colourful sponge cake layered with soft, fluffy slices in vibrant hues – a playful way to brighten up your afternoon.

Quattro Deli

Not only the place to stock up on quality sandwich ingredients (if you’re in the mood to DIY), but they also have ready-made fresh panini, loaded with cold cuts and cheese. Even better, International Sandwich Day falls on a Sunday, which means you can catch their weekend focaccia special. Past favourites have included gourmet combos like prosciutto, figs, ricotta, and truffle honey. Yum!
